Folk Fantasy

We use the label ‘folk fantasy’ to describe pieces with speculative themes that edge beyond nature into the fantastic.  These are not, like our mythology or sci-fi, fantasy and fandom pieces, songs based in particular folklore traditions, or popular themes like mermaids or space travel.  Instead they use the idea of folklore, creating the kind of folk music which might be composed by cultures who see a little more magic woven into the fabric of nature than most modern cultures do.
