Renaissance

Many Sassafrass members have trained performing Renaissance music, and the group frequently performes madrigals and pieces by favorite composers including Thomas Weelkes, Josquin Desprez and Claudio Monteverdi.  Since most Renaissance music was performed by primarily male ensembles, and our group is mostly female, our arrangements tend to give these pieces a rather different feel.

We sometimes perform these pieces at Renaissance Festivals.  We also enjoy performing holiday carols, and frequently hold holiday concerts, often as charity fundraisers.

Our own, rather idiosyncratic, arrangement of the traditional carol Ideo Gloria appears on several of our CDs.
